All university faculty and staff members are welcome to come to the Engineering Research Facility and experience firsthand its state-of-the-art facilities, explore the virtual world, and talk with our expert researchers. If you have a project idea dealing with VR, this would be a great time to discuss and perhaps meet others with similar interests.

Parking is available at the Iowa City Capitol Street Parking Ramp, 220 South Capitol Street (https://transportation.uiowa.edu/facility/iowa-city-capitol-street-ramp), and Iowa City Court Street Ramp, 150 East Court Street (https://transportation.uiowa.edu/facility/iowa-city-court-street-ramp).

There will be two food trucks adjacent to the Engineering Research Facility to purchase lunch.

Available to experience at VARBU will be the following labs and equipment:

  • HTC Vive: VIVE VR
  • Oculus Rift: Oculus Rift VR
  • The Portal: completely immersive VR system that consists of six rear-projected walls arranged like a cube.
  • IDEA Lab: The art of recording human motions made another monumental stride by enabling the digitization of every small detail of human motion.
  • 4D scanning system
  • 3D Motion Capture System: 16 infrared cameras for high precision capturing
  • 3D IMU suit
  • Haptic devices
